Top-level investment at Scolmore to support continued growth

Recognised as one of the UK’s principal manufacturers of products for the electrical industry.

Scolmore Group attributes its market-leading position to sustained reinvestment in its business infrastructure and people, to provide a solid platform for continual growth and expansion.

The company has grown exponentially since its inception in 1989 when it traded from a small warehouse in Tamworth with a total of six product lines and just three employees. Today the Scolmore Group of companies incorporates Scolmore with its Click wiring accessories and Ovia and Inceptor lighting brands;  security specialists, ESP Ltd and its Irish counterpart, ESPi; Sangamo time switches and heating controls; cable accessories supplier, Unicrimp and Click Litehouse wiring accessories and lighting in Ireland.

Operating out of a combined 234,000 sq. ft. of head office, manufacturing and warehouse space, the group now employs around 240 people and supplies more than 9,000 individual product lines.

Scolmore has just announced a series of promotions and new areas of responsibilities at director level, as well as the creation of a new role on the board.  At a pivotal time for the industry – with challenges faced from the digital revolution, as well changes in standards and legislation to guarantee safety – the restructure will strengthen the senior management team and allow them to focus their areas of expertise where they can make a difference to the future development of the company.

Comments Gary Mordue, Scolmore Group managing director:  “There has never been a more challenging time to be operating in the electrical industry.  The fast pace of change that is being driven by advancing technology, the shortage of skilled labour, and more stringent regulations resulting from the Grenfell Tower fire are all contributing to a more pressurised environment.  It’s important that we have the right people and structure in place to be able to manage these challenges and future-proof the business for continued success.

“We are fortunate to have a pool of highly talented and experienced individuals within the organisation, many of whom have worked their up through the business and on to the board.  I am confident that this new senior team structure, supported by the on-going dedication and commitment of all our staff, will ensure our continued growth and development well into the future.”

The company has created its first HR role and has appointed Jo Jinks as group HR director.  Jo is an MCIPD qualified HR professional with over 20 years’ experience working within a range of organisations that have encompassed diverse industries and cultures.   She has been working with Scolmore on a consultancy basis since March 2018 and now assumes the full time board position.  Jo’s skills include employment relations, culture change programmes, generalist HR/employee issues, recruitment and career management.

Following more than two years as sales and commercial director of group company, ESP, Neil Baldwin has been promoted to managing director and will assume responsibility for the day to day running of the specialist security and fire protection division of the business.

Having taken up the newly created position of Group Technical Manager in 2018, Martyn Walley has been promoted to group technical director and will continue to oversee the development and implementation of a complete offer of technical support and comprehensive training for all group products.

In addition to his role as Group operations director, Scolmore, Steve Taylor becomes the managing director of Sangamo, where he will be responsible for the day to day running of the group’s manufacturing facility.

In her role as group marketing director since 2016, Marie Parry will now also assume responsibility for overseeing the customer service department.

There have been three promotions within the sales team.  Tim Piggott assumes the role of sales director (Dubai), Kevin Beech takes up the position of sales director for Scolmore and Mike Jackson is the sales director for the cable accessory division, Unicrimp.

Group commercial director, Ian Hunter, will continue to have responsibility for the overall strategic development of the business.

Elsewhere in the group structure, Chris Massey is promoted to Purchasing Director at ESP

The new roles and responsibilities have been taken on with immediate effect.
