This year is set to be an important one for the company as it continues to offer the perfect balance of the traditional values people expect from a family business with modern day demands.
The company was established 25 years ago by husband-and-wife Bill and Karen Hutchison. That family appeal is further enhanced with sons, Gareth and Neil, also working for the company, alongside the only non-family member, Gary Hull, who is the company’s sales representative.
As distributors to electrical wholesalers, OMAK’s primary focus is on energy-efficient lighting. However, the company now also offers a range of electrical solutions for indoor environments, with a range of hand dryers and fly killers.
The drive to remain competitive in a crowded marketplace has been relentless, and OMAK has once again demonstrated this commitment with further expansion plans.
Gareth explained, “Last year we moved to new premises that have trebled our warehouse capacity. We also have a new showroom that allows us to showcase our extensive product range. That has given us the perfect base to be able to expand into new markets. We have already established relationships with a number of electrical wholesalers in the Republic of Ireland and have received positive responses in GB, which is a market we are actively exploring at present.
“Investment in new computer systems, a new website and social media has enhanced what was an already reliable customer service.”
He added, “We are all about building relationships with customers. Of course we have to be commercially aware, and many of our recent changes have been focused on this aspect.”
The company’s route to market is through electrical wholesalers but OMAK Agencies is also working directly with architects, consultants and contractors to build product awareness.
“These are exciting times and being able to move into new markets is only possible because of the solid base we already have in Northern Ireland. That is something that we are very aware of as we expand and move forward.”
