Northern Ireland’s Electrical Awards continue to grow in popularity, with the 2017 event moving to the beautiful setting of Titanic Belfast to accommodate the increasing numbers of people who want to attend the gala awards night.

The awards, which are judged by an independent panel of industry experts, incorporate a wide range of categories that reflect the diverse nature of the industry and which enable as many companies as possible to take part.

All the winners will be announced at a gala awards night at Titanic Belfast on Friday, September 15, 2017.

The categories for Northern Ireland’s Electrical Awards 2017 include:

Apprentice of the Year
(Winner sponsored by JIB)
This award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate an apprentice’s outstanding contribution to their workplace.

Manufacturer’s Representative of the Year

This award will recognise a manufacturer’s representative who provides outstanding customer service, superior product knowledge and support to meet customers’ needs. Nominations are welcomed for this category.

Best Marketing Campaign of the Year

This category will look at how a company has marketed a new service and/or product across a number of platforms, including digital media.

Lighting Product of the Year
This category is open to lighting manufacturers and will look at innovation, background and performance in the marketplace of a product that was launched in the last two years.

Innovative Product of the Year
(Sponsored by Hanover Systems)
Open to manufacturers, this category looks at innovation, background and performance of a product that has been launched in the last two years.

Unsung Hero

This category is aimed at recognising an individual within the electrical industry who makes a substantive contribution to their company, local community or charity.

Lighting Project of the Year

This category is open to M&E consultants and/or contractors. Entries will be judged on a presentation of their work on the lighting aspect of a project that has been completed in the last two years.

Domestic Electrical Project of the Year

This category is open to small electrical contractors. Entries will be judged on a presentation of how they worked positively on a new build or retrofit domestic electrical project to deliver high standards and meet strict deadlines. The project must have been successfully completed in the last two years.

Commercial Electrical Project of the Year

This category is open to M&E consultants and/or contractors. Entries will be judged on a presentation of how they worked positively throughout a commercial electrical installation project completed in the last two years to deliver high standards and meet strict deadlines.

Specialist Contractor of the Year

Recognising contractors who bring a specialist set of skills to a project that cannot be completed by the main electrical contractor, this new category will focus on the high level of expertise they bring to a project. Entries will be judged on a presentation of how the specialist contractor provided a solution for a project completed within the last two years.

Fire & Security Contractor of the Year
(Winner sponsored by Precision Cables)
This award will recognise fire and security companies within this specialist sector and will be judged on their ability to provide solutions to recent challenging project(s).

Electrical Contractor of the Year (Small)

This category is open to all electrical contracting companies, and entries will be judged on a presentation of how they provided a solution to recent challenging project(s) completed in the last two years alongside customer testimonials.

While wholesalers can nominate themselves, customers will also have the opportunity to vote for their preferred electrical wholesaler through an online poll. The successful nominees will then be judged through a combination of their entry form and the online vote.

Awards’ Judges

Our respected panel of independent judges will have the difficult task of selecting the winners of Northern Ireland’s Electrical Awards 2017 –


GREG POWER – With 45 years’ experience in the electrical wholesale industry, Greg has undertaken practically every role within this sector. He joined Walter S Mercer & Son in 1971 and moved to H.Ritchie and Sons Ltd in 1989 to develop the company’s new premises and take it forward as a shareholding director. In 2006, Greg joined Century Electrical Wholesale as a Director, and before his semi-retirement last year the company had expanded from two branches to nine in as many years.


GORDON NIXON – The winner of the 2015 Overall Achievement Award, Gordon is best known for his role in transforming his business, Scotts Electrical Services. He entered the electrical trade as an apprentice with H.J. Scott Ltd in 1979 where he worked his way up to manager. In 2007, following the demise of the former company, Gordon set up a new company, Scott’s Electrical Services, showing the vision to see the company’s potential. Through his determination and drive to succeed, he grew the business, evolving the services and specialisms offered.

 


MORRIS CAIRNS – With over 50 years’ experience in the electrical contracting industry, Morris has been involved in many major contracts across the UK, ranging across all sectors such as health, education, leisure, commercial and industrial. His early career provided ranges from contracting through to industrial electronics and all aspects of fault diagnostics and repairs. A return to the contracting industry saw him remain with Blackbourne Electrical for 35 years, including several as MD, before his retirement in 2014.


ANGUS BIGGERSTAFF – As a Chartered Engineer with over 45 years’ experience, Angus has been involved in all aspects of electrical and mechanical engineering nationally and internationally, including the design, manufacture, and installation of switchgear and HVAC controls. He has worked for the Northern Ireland Electricity utility company and White Young Green where he led the Ireland M&E offices and was Director & Head of Ireland Region responsible for M&E, C&S, Water, Highways, Management Services and Environmental disciplines.
