Protect with confidence: FP500 fire-resistant cable

Prysmian Group, a global leader in the cable and wire industry, has designed FP500 to meet the CAT 3 control cable requirements of BS 8519:2020, including where the control cable is to be used as a single-phase power cable. FP500 is steel wire armoured (SWA) with mechanical protection built into the cable, which eliminates the need for additional mechanical protection, saving time and money on installation.

With its white numbered cores and red coloured outer sheath for easy identification, FP500 is the perfect choice for LV life safety control panel supplies, including fire-fighting applications. The cable has passed all required fire tests, with a team of fire testing engineers conducting 1,500 fire tests every year to ensure its durability and reliability.

SWA provides mechanical protection that ensures the cable’s durability even in the harshest of environments. This feature makes FP500 the best option for applications where mechanical protection is required.

FP500 requires no special tools or glands during installation, which simplifies the process and saves installation time. The cable uses standard installation techniques, which eliminates the need for additional expertise and training. Moreover, FP500 has proprietary readily available accessories such as the BW or CW gland.

Installation

When it comes to installation, circuit integrity is a critical task required by fire-resistant cables. The cable must keep working by maintaining voltage and current safely to keep the system functioning. Therefore, the resistance to fire of the cable fixings, cable support system and any joints should be at least equivalent to the survival time of FP500 cable. The cable should either be fixed directly to the building structure or be installed such that it is enclosed in, or carried upon, cable management or support systems. Copper or ferrous fixings are suitable, but aluminum with a melting point of 660˚C is not. As well as being non-burning, any fixing selected should not impede the cable performance during a fire – to guarantee that the cable will carry on working.

To specify FP500, look for the mechanically protected fire-resistant control cable assessed in accordance with BS 8519:2020 Clause 11, meeting 120-minute survival time in BS EN 50200:2015, BS 8434-2 and BS 8519:2020 Annex D, with a red outer sheath for easy identification. BICON cable accessories by Prysmian Group are a suitable choice as they have been fire-tested with their associated Prysmian FP cables.

In summary, FP500 is a mechanically protected Cat 3 fire-resistant control cable designed to meet the needs of single-phase power circuits. It provides excellent mechanical protection, ensuring the cable’s durability even in harsh conditions, eliminating the need for additional mechanical protection. It also saves time and money during installation, as it requires no special tools or glands and uses standard installation techniques. The cable has passed all required fire tests and is perfect for LV life safety control panel supplies, including fire-fighting applications. BICON cable accessories are a suitable choice, having been fire-tested with Prysmian FP cables. With Prysmian Group’s extensive experience in the cable and wire industry, you can trust them to provide reliable and high-quality solutions for your control cable needs.
