Mercury Security’s Toy Story success

Founded in County Mayo in 1986, Smyths is the biggest toy retailer in Ireland and now operates no fewer than 80 stores throughout Ireland and the UK.

Lisburn-based company Mercury, which also has offices in Dublin, Limerick and London, has established a strong reputation as a leading security provider in the retail market with an impressive portfolio of clients that also includes HMV, Sports Direct, Lidl, CastleCourt and a host of other prominent shopping centres.

The Smyths security contract will see Mercury provide a team of well-equipped manned guards, with fast access to additional support and resources if required, to all 27 Smyths stores across the island of Ireland, including six in Northern Ireland.

“Whilst Smyths Toys provides endless hours of fun for children the length and breadth of Ireland, providing security for such a huge and respected retail giant is far from child’s play,” said Liam Cullen, Mercury’s Regional Director UK and Ireland. “We are delighted to work with Smyths Toys and the implementation of our manned guards into each store will provide vital protection and offer peace of mind for staff and customers alike.”

Smyths Toys’ Senior Operations Manager, Adam Smith, said, “At Smyths we take the safety of our staff, customers and products very seriously. We were very impressed by Mercury’s innovative and forward-thinking approach to security and with their extensive experience and expertise in the retail industry, we are confident that our stores will be safe and secure.”
