Let’s ‘Crowne’ our champions

New date and venue announced for the 2020 Electrical Awards show and gala dinner…

The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Dublin, will host the 2020 Electrical Awards gala dinner on Thursday, November 19. Perhaps, given the current climate it’s difficult to think awards, party frocks, dickie bows and gala dinners. But there is also a train of thought that it’s exactly at times like these that we need to cling to some semblance of normality, to believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and the electrical industry on the island of Ireland will emerge from the Coronavirus crisis with a renewed sense of purpose.

That’s why we were determined not to pull the plug on the 2020 Electrical Awards, despite being forced to cancel the original event in June. With the Citywest Hotel now being used as a ‘Self-isolation facility’ by the HSE, we also had to secure an alternative venue. The Crowne Plaza, next to Dublin Airport, fits the bill perfectly. With the switch of dates to later in the year the deadline for entries has been extended, so there is more time to submit your entries for one of 17 separate categories up for grabs in the 2020 Electrical Awards.

In addition to the aforementioned ‘brightest spark’ (Electrician of the Year), there are categories for Fire & Security Contractor, Specialist Contractor, Electrical Wholesaler, Lighting Project and Lighting Product, Electrical product, Distributor/Supplier of the Year, and more. To nominate please go to our website or email karenj@kmpltd.co.uk for an entry form.

I know there will be some who might think this is all a bit inappropriate. I mean, how can you be talking about nominating people and projects for awards when we’re in the middle of global pandemic. But we can’t just throw in the towel. It’s not in our nature. So, let’s instead try to remain as positive as we can in such trying circumstances, and cling to the belief that this will end, and in November at the Crowne Plaza Hotel we will once again get together to celebrate the achievements of the Irish electrical industry.
