After 55 years in business you would think that JD McGeown had little else to achieve, but the family-run company remains as enthusiastic as ever to expand whilst still delivering the highest standards.
The opening of a new office in Dublin is just one of a number of ways the company is marking this important milestone, with investments in new staff, a new-look website and training in Building Information Modelling (BIM) all placed alongside the development of new and existing partnerships. Like so many companies, JD McGeown rose from humble beginnings that are far removed from what it is today. However, the company is still family owned and run, with James McGeown, son of the company founder, now Managing Director, and his sister, Emer Patterson, the company’s Finance Director.
From the sole trader in 1961, the company now employs 90 dedicated and highly trained staff across three offices – the Belfast headquarters alongside those in L’Derry and Dublin.
“We are delighted to mark our 55th anniversary by again expanding our business,” explained James McGeown, Managing Director. “It is a competitive marketplace, so it is important to get our name out there in any way we can. Websites are an important part of this process but we have matched this by having our own personnel on the ground delivering the highest standards of service.”
James continued, “We have also developed a number of new business relationships that have allowed us to create strategic partnerships which, we hope, will lead to further business growth. Having been in business for so long, we recognise the importance of moving forward with confidence and we are sure that, with such solid foundations already in place, we can continue to grow.”

James added, “We hold a series of accreditations including ISO 9001,14001 and 18001 in quality, environment and H&S respectively. We are also a SparkSafe approved contractor, which enables us to carry out all Public Sector work, and were the first NI contractor to complete a SparkSafe project. These accreditations all prove our commitment to attaining the highest standards and the secret to attaining these is our expert team. Our team is not only highly trained, but also highly experienced, and that balance makes a significant difference to the solutions we can deliver.”
