ESB has awarded Greencells GmbH a €13m contract for the development of the Bullstown Solar Farm in Co Meath.

Construction is set to begin early this year, with the farm generating 8.5MW of clean electricity upon completion, sufficient for 2,000 homes.

Bullstown is the first of ESB’s three solar farms, constituting a €200m investment. “Bullstown Solar Farm marks the beginning of a sustained campaign by ESB to develop and construct a large portfolio of utility-scale solar farms throughout the midlands, south and south-east of the country as we move towards our ultimate goal of achieving net zero by 2040,” said Eoin Naughton, Solar Development Manager at ESB.

“Ireland is a focus market for Greencells GmbH with the construction of six solar farms currently underway in the country,” said Ric Hallikeri, General Manager EMEA at Greencells – a major European solar EPC provider. “In the context of a long-term partnership, we will support ESB in realising its ambitious decarbonisation goals over the coming years.”
