Deadline for new wiring regulations starts

The National Standards Authority of Ireland’s new National Rules for Electrical Installations starts now...

All electrical installations must be certified to the new standard in 28 months. The IS 10101:2020 addresses changes and updates in important areas in line with recent technical developments and best practices in Europe, including a greater emphasis on safety, new technologies such as electric cars and adaptation for IT connections, and guidance on energy efficiency. One of the main changes in domestic installations is that all lighting circuits now must be RCD protected. While it is a positive safety feature, it means extra cost, and they may also require a larger distribution board.

Safe Electric have developed a series of short informative videos to help the industry learn more about the changes, and discuss enhanced cable specifications, surge protection, and insulation and resistance, among other issues.
